Is Clutter Weighing You Down?
In feng shui, clutter is considered stagnant energy. It can drain your life force energy & impede ALL areas of your life, making you feel lethargic, depressed, sick and impoverished. It can also keep opportunities, relationships, and prosperity away!
The good news is that by working through your mess, addressing the mental and emotional patterns that created it, and using feng shui to intentionally redesign your space, you can infuse energy into every aspect of your life!
Before & After
My client barely had room to get to her desk, in this tiny room, at the front of her apartment. And even when she could, it was piled high with stuff. Also, the music cabinet and stereo just didn’t fit in this space. They were adding to the blocked, stifled feeling.
We moved them to a different area, cleared off the desk, and tidied up the magazines and newspapers.
Do you FEEL the difference between these two pictures? I know that she does. Since she uses this space, every day, clearing it has made a big difference in how she feels about herself and her home.
“When I began working with Claire, my office was a dumping ground for all of the ‘miscellaneous’ items in the house. I run my business from my house, and I hated going into the office each day. It was so bad, I even worked from the living room couch for a while!
I thought feng shui was an ‘out there’ concept, ‘newfangled mumbo jumbo’, and wouldn’t work for me, but I knew I needed help with organizing and clearing out clutter. So, I decided to work with Claire Amber. Claire consulted with me over the phone, and through photos and written diagrams, she was able to guide me on how to approach my office and take it back. She broke things down into easy-to-digest steps and encouraged me with every step. She was always there to guide me through getting organized, clearing the clutter, and rearranging my office to utilize feng shui concepts.
I was completely amazed at how much self-discovery happened when I started dealing with the environment around me! I didn’t plan on believing in the use of feng shui, but I’ve seen the results, not only personally, but professionally. I feel stronger and more confident in myself and my business. My business projects and revenue have increased. I have more energy, and I’m getting more done on a daily basis. The clutter clearing and organizing has even begun to spread to other parts of the house, and I have a feeling use of feng shui in other areas isn’t far behind.
I want to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Claire, and I encourage anyone who needs to take back a room or space in their home or office to contact her immediately.”
Why Do We Hold Onto Clutter?
There are SO many reasons, and many of them are mental and emotional. That’s why I focus on your inner feng shui as much as what’s in your environment. Sure there are some logistics involved, and of course I help with those. But it’s really your beliefs, blocks, and behaviors that create the clutter and chaos. My job is to get at the roots of what’s causing these limiting habits and help you heal through the process of clutter clearing. Here are some of the reasons why we hold onto clutter and why it’s so hard to let go of it:
- Habits and learned behaviors
- Fear of letting go & not having enough
- Overwhelm, depression, lethargy, feeling hopeless
- Energetic and emotional sensitivities
- Using clutter as a barrier of “protection”
- Desire for safety (Ego, Inner Child)
- Lack of trust and faith in the Universe to provide
- Numbing/not wanting to feel emotions
- Our society’s focus on materialism
- Lack of healthy boundaries and structure
- A poverty mentality and issues with self-worth
- Expectations to keep items that were gifted to us
Before & After
This loveseat, near the front door of my client’s apartment, was a catch-all for a variety of items, such as garments, books, magazines, sewing tools, and other things she would toss on it, when she came in the door.
It definitely needed some clearing up. The couch also needed a bit of repositioning, as it was sitting at a very odd angle.
The front area of your home, called the Ming Tang in feng shui, is very important. It’s the transition from the crazy busy outside world to the more peaceful inner world of your home. This area should ideally be clean, organized, inviting, spacious, and beautiful.
We repositioned the couch, cleared the extra items off of it, placed the magazine rack on the side closer to the door, and brought the stereo cabinet and speaker over from the other room.
This space feels much more inviting, now. The changes here were small, but they made a big difference.

All through my 20’s, I dealt with bipolar depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, mysterious pains and indicators of low-immune function. Just before I turned 30, I discovered that a long-standing spinal injury was likely the cause of all of these ailments. I soon had a vision that letting go of pretty much everything was the path to my healing.
It took a while to sort and paw through my everyday stuff, my garage full of stuff, childhood stuff at my mom’s, multiple storage spaces full of stuff (I had it BAD), but for the past decade, I’ve lived a relatively clutter-free life.
The process was very healing for me. I feel that the clarity that I gained led to me to the right doctors to help me with my spine. I’m also happy to report that I have not experienced any bipolar symptoms for the past 8 years. I’ve also experienced so much more connection to Spirit (inspiration), happiness, energy & abundance, without all the excess stuff in the way! Because clearing my clutter was so significant in my life, I knew that I wanted to help others do the same.
